Sales and net earnings on an upward path
Montreal, December 5, 2014 – For the second quarter of its 2014-2015 fiscal year, which ended on September 13, 2014, the SAQ recorded sales of $678.6 million, an increase of $14.1 million or 2.1% from the preceding fiscal year. For the same 12-week period, it also reported net earnings of $242.4 million, up $4.1 million or 1.7%.
Value sales in the store and specialized centre network grew 1.6% to $610.4 million, compared with the $600.8 million recorded 12 months earlier. For their part, volume sales remained stable at 36.4 million litres.
In addition, value sales in the wholesale grocer network rose $4.5 million or 7.1% to $68.2 million. The corresponding volume sales increased 6.3% to 8.4 million litres.
Expressed as a percentage of sales, net expenses since the start of fiscal 2014-2015 were 18.3%, the same as in fiscal 2013-2014.
Volume sales by category
- Wines increased 1.7%, ending the quarter at 36.2 million litres.
- Spirits rose 2% to total 5.1 million litres.
- Coolers, also known as ready-to-drinks, dropped 7.1% to 2.6 million litres.
- Imported and microbrewery beers, ciders and related products held steady at 0.9 million litres.
