Libournais

The hub of exceptional vineyards of the Right Bank, the Libournais offers an impressive amount of brilliant cuvees this year. Saint-Émilion delivers wines where Merlot transcends richness without ever tipping on over ripeness, while the Cabernet Franc reveals with great precision scents of juicy black fruits infused with a hint of spice. There is no doubt on how the acidity and tannin suppleness are in perfect harmony in a flavourful and exquisite ensemble.

In Pomerol, wines are revealed as more coated and very aromatic. Their bright bouquet call to mind wild strawberry, blackberry, plum, mocha and cedar… And let’s not forget the lovely fresh finale, almost salty, on certain terroirs!

Vineyard characterised by more gravely soils, this environment particularly well-suited to, and mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, gives the wines an eloquent robustness host to the aromatic complexity of refined cuvees, graced with moving aromatic persistence and obvious aging potential… All the more reasons to fill the cellar.

Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux

“The 2016 Pavillon Blanc is one of the most refined whites of the vintage. Orchard fruit, white flowers, mint and slate notes are beautifully vivid and delineated throughout. Creamy, pliant and polished to the core, the 2016 is simply exceptional. Médoc

First off in Saint-Estèphe, this year wines are simply incredible: “an iron hand in a velvet glove” that combines tannin richness to fruit brightness and delicateness. A cellaring vintage of high calibre is underway here; not to be missed! Always part of the most sought-after, the Pauillac vineyard is home to three of the five Premiers Grand Crus Classés of 1855. Here as well, the terroir has spoken through such a grandiose vintage: ampleness, elegance and balance form a winning trio. In fact, Nicolas Glumineau du Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande confirms it: “After an expressive and mouth-filling 2014 vintage, a rich and complex 2015, 2016 offers us a very grand vintage; powerful, deep and of great elegance.”

And over in Margaux? The bar was set high after the excellent 2015 vintage. Although a wide selection of wines was presented, we can assure you we were careful in choosing exquisite cuvees, exceptional even, of different profiles in this appellation… But always wines of great finesse and length, with this velvety quality so typical of the appellation.

And finally, Saint-Julien; not one to be outdone. Like the Spanish Armada, the region delivers a superb hit throughout the properties. These wines display the precision of a metronome, complex aromatic bouquets featuring notes of black fruits, iris and liquorice, and as always this freshness that makes your mouth water and makes you come back for more.

Pessac-Léognan

The pinnacle of Graves celebrates its 30 years this vintage. Welcome to the region of Pessac-Léognan! This year, red wines are just dashing, juicy, fresh and concentrated. Just enough, without exuberance and graced with a round tannic structure… A certain “taste of happiness” as mentioned by Véronique Sanders and Gabriel Vialard of Château Haut-Bailly. And happiness is always welcomed without moderation… On the white wine side, everything is quite expressive. The aromatic palette brings together yellow fruits, acacia flower, grapefruit and fresh mango. They are unctuous, fresh, and some show superb mineral expressions.

Coup de Coeur • Château Lanessan

Château Lanessan

“The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin, well-judged acidity, plenty of black fruit with harmonous [sic], engaging and slightly tarry finish. This is a great Lanessan that should give 20 years of pleasure. This comes highly recommended and I expect it will land at the top of my banded score once in bottle.”

Château La Tour de Bessan

“The 2016 La Tour de Bessan is plump, forward and absolutely delicious. Made in a juicy, fruit-driven style, the 2016 is not the last word in complexity, but it is tasty and should drink well with minimal cellaring. Sweet tobacco, earth and herbal notes add aromatic lift to the plush red fruit in this succulent, inviting mid-weight Margaux.”

Château Poujeaux

“This is a ‘smoky’ Poujeaux with commendable depth and structure, a little more ‘solid’ than recent vintages with good depth on the black pepper-tinged finish. The 2015 Poujeaux was very good, but this may well surpass that and achieve the level of some of the legendary wines from yesteryear.”

Coup de Coeur • Château Lilian Ladouys

Château Lilian Ladouys

“The 2016 Lilian Ladouys is wonderfully expressive in this vintage. Lifted, savory aromatics and pliant fruit are some of the signatures, but it is the wine’s sublime balance and sense of proportion that stand out most. Silky tannins add to the mid-weight, gracious feel. This is a strong showing.”

Château Petit Bocq

“The 2016 Petit Bocq has quite a rich bouquet with baked cherries, kirsch, savory fruit and quite noticeable new oak that will need to be subsumed.
