Founded in 1816, Lagavulin is one of the few remaining distilleries still operating on the south side of Islay along with Ardbeg and Laphroaig. Recognizable thanks to the peaty and smoky character typical of the region, Lagavulin's whiskies nonetheless retain their own complex and harmonious personality. Profound and intense, the 16 Year-Old transmits notes of dried fruit, seaweed, wood and ash, culminating into a long, smoky and spicy finish. A perfect archetype of the genre with its strong personality, it is considered by many as the quintessential malt whisky.
