Our economic contribution

Government funding

All the SAQ’s net earnings are remitted to the Quebec government in the form of dividends. In fiscal 2018-2019, this figure amounted to $1.146 billion.

The SAQ also pays to the federal and provincial governments monies it collects from three non-retail sources: excise taxes, sales taxes and specific taxes. In fiscal 2018-2019, these totalled $1.088 billion.

Thousands of jobs in Quebec

With its some 840 points of sale, including 409 stores, the SAQ is present across the province.

It has more than 7,000 employees, who work enthusiastically to carry out its mission and do their utmost to ensure customers are satisfied.

Investment in research and development

The SAQ encourages research to add value to and increase the use of recovered glass in Quebec. It also contributes to the development of Quebec engineering, in particular by funding the Chaire SAQ de valorisation du verre dans les matériaux at the Université de Sherbrooke.

In addition, in partnership with the ÉTS, Ville de Montréal, Éco Entreprises Québec and RECYC-QUÉBEC, the SAQ has supported a research project on using recycled glass on Quebec roads.
