All about freshness

Alsace wines come from a region with a very particular charm, with its often-impressive hillsides surrounding charming and proud villages, nestled in the heart of the valleys. There we find a distinctive culture where a variety of wines flourish that we love for their aromatic character and pleasant freshness.

Spoiled by nature

The Alsatian vineyard benefits from very specific conditions. Even though it is in the north of France, it benefits from exceptional sunshine due to the protective effect of the Vosges massif, located just to the west of the vineyards, which blocks the rain coming from the Atlantic. In addition to the alternation of sunny days and cool nights, there is a gentle maturity of the fruits: an ideal situation for preserving a thirst-quenching acidity, but also for magnifying the aromatic expression of the grape varieties.

Easy-to-spot AOC

Recognized in 1962, the Alsace AOC represents 64% of production today. Its wines are mainly made from a single grape variety clearly indicated on the label. On shelves, you can easily spot them thanks to their iconic elongated bottle called “Alsace flute”, which is reserved for them.

Whites and bubblies

Alsace is 90% white wine, a fairly rare percentage in French vineyards.

Riesling, king of the region, reveals citrus notes reminiscent of lime and this essential minerality, which we particularly appreciate with shellfish and lean fish. Not far behind are also the famous Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris.

Sparkling crémants from Alsace represent 33% of all production in the region. Produced using the traditional method and often made with Pinot Blanc, they have a fruity and lively profile. Invigorating when labeled “Brut”, they are perfect for an aperitif or to complement bites of fish and seafood.

Terroir preservation

The Alsatian vineyard is on a human scale, made up mainly of small producers, often established for several generations (sometimes 12, 13 or 14). The protection of this unique territory is therefore at the heart of their concerns.

As wine is an agricultural product and not an isolated element, the cohabitation of the vines with nature must be harmonious and the care given to the vines must highlight the freshness and aromatic expression of the wines while ensuring the sustainability of the vineyard. Organic and biodynamic viticulture took its first steps in the vineyard in the early 1970s. Today, 36% of it holds organic certification, compared to a French national average of around 22%. It must be said that the dry, sunny climate makes life easier for winegrowers (fewer diseases on the vines) and naturally promotes a reduction in the use of chemicals.
