    Cellaring potential: 2022-2032

‘’The 2019 Chablis En Vaudécorse comes from Picq’s single hectare of vines on Kimmeridgian soils. It has a very taut, crisp bouquet featuring dew-speckled green apples plus faint, enticing white chocolate hints. The palate is well balanced with bitter lemon on the entry, fresh and vibrant, delivering a potent lick of salinity on the finish. Superb.’’

  2. B 91 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding Top value), V 93-95
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2045

‘’The 2019 Chablis Vieilles Vignes comes from vines that will celebrate their 70th birthday next year. This is tighter on the nose compared to Picq’s other cuvées, but comes with laser focus and tangible energy. The palate is beautifully balanced, delivering wonderful tension that electrifies the senses. So much nascent energy is coiled up in this Chablis, replete with a persistent saline finish. Magnifique!’’

  3. B 92 (Coup de cœur, Sweet spot Outstanding), V 92-94
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2040

‘’The 2019 Chablis Vaucoupin 1er Cru, from vines mostly planted in 1990, was so clear in color that Didier Picq is currently unsure whether he will filter or not. It has a poised, elegant bouquet with touches of white flower and white chocolate furnishing the aromatics. The palate is very harmonious, delivering the tension one associates with this domaine. The most mineral-driven of Picq’s 2019s, featuring a very intense, persistent finish. For serious Chablis-lovers.’’

    Cellaring potential: 2028+

‘’This is one of the most elegant wines in the range with its cool and admirably airy and pure aromas of citrus zest, oyster shell, seashore and gentle wood nuances. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors combines volume with refinement while delivering excellent length on the balanced, stony and markedly dry finale. This is not quite as concentrated or complex as the best here but as it usually is, it's a marvelous wine of refinement and punch.’’

  5. This estate, among the most famous in Burgundy, is headed by none other than Lalou Bize-Leroy. Once the co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti with Aubert de Villaine, and thus a contributor to the unequaled levels reached by those legendary crus, she endows her current cuvées with the same energy and philosophy. A true living legend, she works on a whole range of terroirs where vines are grown according to biodynamic principles. To magnify their typical character, yields are tightly controlled and sorting is rigorous. In the cellar, meticulousness and rigorous work go hand in hand.
  6. B 90-92 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 90-92

‘’The 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos du Meix reveals aromas of crisp green apple, white flowers, citrus zest and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, round but incisive palate that's chalky and mineral, with fine depth at the core and a long finish. This rocky, southeasterly exposed site is located by the village, below Derrière Chez Édouard.’’

  7. RVF 92, B 89 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 90, V 89-91
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2032

‘’The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Village comes from the 12 parcels located around the appellation. It offers attractive dewy green apples, freshly sliced pear and hints of mirabelle on the nose, which needs a few swirls of the glass to awaken. The palate is well balanced with orange zest and citrus lemon and hints of lime, all matched with a fine bead of acidity, the 15% new oak neatly folded into the finish. Recommended.’’

‘This has an intense, concentrated bouquet with touches of white flower infusing the crushed rock/flinty aromas. It feels stoic but very well defined. The palate is well balanced, offering orange peel and marmalade notes on the entry. Wonderful depth here, and a sense of energy. This should evolve into a marvelous Champ Canet once in bottle.’’

  10. RVF 96, B 91-94 (Coup de cœur, Sweet spot Outstanding), WA 93, V 93-95
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2048

‘’The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet les Combettes 1er Cru comes from a single parcel of vines that abuts the Meursault Charmes of Comtes Lafon over the border. It has a strict bouquet of well defined crushed stone aromas, hints of orange blossom surfacing with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced opening. Impressive weight in the mouth here. The pithy, stone fruit finish leaves a dash of ginger on the aftertaste. This is an excellent Les Combettes.’’

  11. B 93 (Coup de cœur, Sweet spot Outstanding)
    Cellaring potential: 2026+

‘’An elegant nose is comprised by sublimely layered aromas of acacia, lilac pear, spice and plenty of mineral reduction. The racy, intense and beautifully delineated medium weight flavors brim with dry extract and minerality before culminating in a youthfully austere, firm and well-balanced finale. This is both classy and stylish and one to look for.’’

  12. RVF 93, B 91-94 (Coup de cœur, Sweet spot Outstanding), WA 93, V 92-94
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2040

‘’...offering walnut and light nutmeg notes, a hint of lanolin in the background and later a discreet petrolly note. The palate possesses the taut line of acidity necessary to counterbalance the intensity and richness of this Charmes. It feels long and generous toward the finish, where hints of stem ginger and grilled almonds linger on the aftertaste.’’

  13. RVF 95, B 92-94 (Coup de cœur, Sweet spot Outstanding), WA 94
    Cellaring potential: 2025-2045

‘’The king of the cellar this year is the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, a deep and layered wine that unwinds in the glass with notes of citrus oil, fresh Anjou pear, peach and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, it's bright, lively and concentrated, with a textural, enveloping profile of considerable charm.’’

  14. B 93 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 92
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2045

‘’Offering up aromas of buttered citrus fruit, Anjou pear, dried white flowers and fresh pastry, Boillot's 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with an ample core of exuberant fruit, lively acids and an expansive finish. This is a fleshy, fruit-driven Charmes that will offer a broad drinking window.’’

  15. B 93 (Coup de cœur, Sweet spot Outstanding), WA 93
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2045

‘’The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières reveals aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, peach, spring blossom, honeycomb and praline, followed by a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated palate that's chalky and structured, built around lively acids and appreciable dry extract.’’

  16. B 93 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 94
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2045

‘’Unwinding in the glass with aromas of white flowers, waxy citrus rind, green pear, fresh mint and nutmeg, the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières is medium to full-bodied, chalky and introverted, with terrific tension and structuring dry extract in this warm vintage, concluding with a long and mineral finish.’’

  17. B 94, WA 95
    Cellaring potential: 2028-2048

‘’The most youthfully reserved wine in the cellar was the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a promising bottling that opens up to reveal scents of citrus zest, dried white flowers, green apple and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with racy acids and prodigious levels of searingly chalky dry extract that lend this wine incredible structure.’’

  18. B 90-92 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 89, V 88-90
    Cellaring potential: 2025+

‘’A ripe, cool and pure nose possesses a lovely array of pear, white peach and subtle acacia wisps that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is both good volume and richness to the utterly delicious and seductively textured flavors that manage to possess a beguiling refinement on the clean and dry finish that offers very good persistence and especially so for a village level wine.’’

  19. B 89-92, WA 91, V 90-92
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2043

‘’Mingling aromas of orange oil and Anjou pear with hints of white flowers, buttery pastry and toasted nuts, the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Âne is medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive, with a bright spine of acidity and a mineral finish. This has turned out nicely and should reward a bit of bottle age.’’

  20. B 90-93 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 92
    Cellaring potential: 2028+

‘’An attractively layered nose combines lovely floral notes with those of citrus peel, pear and soft spice hints. The racy and tension-filled medium weight flavors possess excellent detail on the palate coating finish that is at once clean, dry and, minerally and youthfully austere. I would further observe that this is a wine that has made considerable progress over the last 10 years, and the 2018 is only the latest confirmation of that progress. In short, this is really quite promising.’’

  21. B 92-95 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 94, V 93-95
    Cellaring potential: 2030+

‘’A slightly riper and super-elegant nose offers up notes of petrol, white peach, floral and honeysuckle that are trimmed in discreet oak. The even more refined medium weight flavors also possess a wonderfully textured mouthfeel along with a bit more minerality before terminating in a palate coating, focused and strikingly long finale. This is also very classy and arguably even more stylish.’’

  22. B 93-95, WA 95, V 95-97
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2048

‘’The 2018 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a terse, stoic, delineated bouquet with scents of wet limestone and sea spray, just a slight menthol note developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. A very pretty, elegant Bienvenues that reveals hints of blood orange and sour lemon on the precise, persistent finish. This is a gorgeous Bienvenue.’’

  23. B 93-96 (Don’t miss), WA 96, V 96-98
    Cellaring potential: 2024-2055

‘’The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has an intense bouquet of lemon thyme, crushed limestone, and traces of orange pith and citrus peel that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is underpinned with a fine, almost razor-sharp bead of acidity. There is a wonderful crescendo of flavor here, leading to a multifaceted, lemongrass-tinged finish that lingers with a saline aftertaste. This is sheer class, a tremendous Chevalier-Montrachet.’’

  24. B 87-89 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding Top value)
    Cellaring potential: 2023+

‘’A ripe but quite fresh nose freely offers up notes of various red berries that are cut with evident earth elements. The delicious and vibrant medium weight flavors possess very good depth and length on the crunchy finish for a wine of this level. To be sure, this is rustic but this is an excellent Bourgogne. Recommended.’’

  25. B 88-91, V 89-91
    Cellaring potential: 2021-2026

‘’The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Village comes from two parcels at the top of Clos des Lambrays where the soil is very shallow, and is completely de-stemmed. It has a bright bouquet of black cherries and blueberry fruit, simple but full of energy. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins and moderate acidity, and lightly spiced with a touch of white pepper on the finish.’’

  26. Burghound 92-95 (Coup de cœur, Don’t miss Outstanding), WA 93-95
    Cellaring potential: 2033+
“Perfumed, airy and more high-toned aromas derive more from the red side of the fruit spectrum while displaying pretty touch of spice and exotic tea. The cool and gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors also brim with minerality on the focused, powerful and particularly firm finale that goes on and on. This is wonderful and I very much like the style and sheer class of this built-to-age Taillepieds.”
  27. Burghound 93-95 (Coup de cœur, Don’t miss Outstanding), WA 95
    Cellaring potential: 2028-2060
“The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has turned out very nicely in bottle, mingling aromas of raspberries and blood orange with hints of espresso roast and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and multidimensional, it's impressively fine-boned and elegant, the inherently muscular vintage notwithstanding, with a vibrant core of fruit, exquisitely powdery tannins and a long, saline finish. If d'Angerville's 2018 Champans is a fine example of the year, the Clos des Ducs by contrast transcends it.”
  28. V 95-97
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2050

“The 2018 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru includes 30% whole-bunch fruit, though this is the one grand cru where you cannot detect the stem addition, just the copious dark cherry, raspberry, cedar and undergrowth aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is supple on the entry, the acidity neatly counterbalancing the intensity of the fruit. This Clos-de-Bèze has real grip and an arching structure on the finish, suggesting that it will be a seriously long-lived wine. Excellent.”

  29. RVF 98, Burghound 97, WA 95+
    Cellaring potential: 2043+
“A brooding and almost grumpy nose only grudgingly gives up its aromas of poached plum, warm earth, smoked game and once again, plenty of spice nuances. The velvety and opulent big-bodied flavors brim with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a seductive mid-palate mouth but also serves to buffer the remarkably firm tannic spine shaping the powerful and hugely long finish where the only nit is a suggestion of warmth. This is a fantastic but seriously imposing wine with the structure to match so this is one to buy and forget you own it. In a word, brilliant.”
  30. WA 89-91, V 89-91
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2040
“The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village offers copious black cherry and bilberry on the very pure nose, along with gorgeous incense aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and slightly chalky in texture, with a Morey-Saint-Denis–like structure toward the serious finish. Good potential.”
  31. RVF 93, Burghound 89 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 90, V 89
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2032

“ has a juicy crushed strawberry and cranberry bouquet with light incense aromas. The palate is smooth on the entry. Plenty of brambly red fruit is laced with sage and a pinch of sea salt. The stems impart a pleasant tertiary note on the finish that becomes spicier with time.”

  32. RVF 96, Burghound 94 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 95, V 95
    Cellaring potential: 2025-2050

“The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has an extravagant bouquet with brambly red fruit laced with shucked oyster shell and a touch of seaweed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, lightly spiced with a subtle ash-like note towards the composed finish. This has great backbone that should guarantee its longevity. A quintessential Dujac/Malconsorts.”

  33. Burghound 92-94 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding)
    Cellaring potential: 2030+
“A much spicier assortment of red currant, plum and violet aromas flash an abundance of spice nuances. The medium weight and even more obviously mineral-inflected flavors possess a beguiling mouthfeel not only thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract but also to the firm but fine-grained tannins shaping the intensely saline finish. This needs to add a bit more depth and overall, this is lovely, and this should be capable of aging for years.”
  34. Burghound 92-95 (Don’t miss)
    Cellaring potential: 2033+
“Firm reduction where the only discernible nuance is a whiff of spice. The super-sleek, intense and wonderfully delineated flavors possess excellent volume on the tautly muscular and stony finish that goes on and on. This classy effort is already quite complex, and more will undoubtedly develop with age.”
  35. RVF 93, Burghound 90-93 (Coup de cœur, Outstanding), WA 91-93+
“The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes wafts from the glass with an inviting bouquet of orange rind, peonies, red berries and ripe cherries. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with an enveloping attack and a generous core of ripe, sweet fruit that's balanced by some fine, chalky tannins and lively acids. This is a youthfully head-turning bottle of Les Chaumes in the making.”
  36. RVF 94, Burghound 91-94, WA 93-95

“The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is also showing very well, exhibiting aromas of sweet wild berries, dried flowers, woodsmoke, blood orange and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with an ample chassis of fine tannins, good tension at the core and a long, youthfully chewy finish.”

  37. V 93-95
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2040

“The 2018 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has a little more fruité on the nose compared to the Echézeaux, offering cranberry, raspberry and light aromas of damp woodland. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine acidity and a lightly spiced, quite linear finish that feels persistent and satisfying. Superb.”

  38. V 94-96
    Cellaring potential: 2023-2045
“The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of ebullient blackberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit entwined with crushed stone and wild hedgerow aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, firm tannins and well-integrated new oak. Fresh and lightly spiced with black pepper and savory notes toward a finish that is tremendously persistent. Bon vin!”
  39. RVF 99 (Coup de cœur), Burghound 97, V 97-99
    Cellaring potential: 2025-2065
“The 2018 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is even darker than the Bonnes-Mares. It has a spectacular bouquet of intense black fruit, blueberries and shucked oyster shells, the mineralité heightened over the Bonnes-Mares and lending a great deal of precision. The palate is medium-bodied with blueberry, boysenberry and black currant fruit, extraordinary tension, razor-sharp acidity and a dash of white pepper on the crystalline finish. One of the finest Musignys I have tasted from barrel at de Vogüé.”
  40. RVF 96, Burghound 93, WA 93, V 93
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2055

“The 2017 Corton Grand Cru is performing beautifully from bottle, bursting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of peonies, rose hips, sweet red berries, orange rind, spices and subtle soil tones. On the palate, the wine medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with succulent acids, good concentration and a long, exquisitely perfumed finish.”

  41. RVF 97, Burghound 93, WA 94, V 94
    Cellaring potential: 2025-2047

“The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru is similarly lifted, with a bit darker fruit and more structure than the Corton. A deceptive, beguiling Burgundy, the 2017 shows the mid-weight structure of the year. Here too, time in the glass brings out the wine’s vertical feel and overall intensity. The 2017 needs time to soften, but it is incredibly persistent and impeccable in its balance. Readers should expect an especially austere Echézeaux that is going to require cellaring.”

  42. RVF 98, Burghound 94, WA 94+, V 96
    Cellaring potential: 2022-2037
“The 2017 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru is a pretty big step up in this range, both in terms of depth, power and energy. Here the flavors are dark, while there is quite a bit of tannin lurking beneath. Black cherry, graphite, leather, smoke, spice and menthol infuse the 2017 with tons of virile, somber character. Readers will have to be very patient. A whole range of sepia-toned aromas and flavors shrouded in tannin add depth to an imposing Grands-Echézeaux built for cellaring.”
  43. RVF 99, Burghound 95, WA 95, V 95
    Cellaring potential: 2027-2060
“The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru offers up generous aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries, cinnamon and coniferous forest floor, framed by a lavish application of creamy new oak that's less immediately integrated than in the Domaine's other wines at this early stage. On the palate, the Richebourg is full-bodied, rich and multidimensional, with a lavishly enveloping attack and supple structuring tannins that are almost entirely concealed by its deep core of fruit. Long and sapid, this is a spectacular wine in the making.”
  44. RVF 99, Burghound 94, WA 95, V 98
    Cellaring potential: 2027-2057

“A total stunner, the 2017 Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru is the most expressive wine in the lineup today. Rich, creamy and so wonderfully textured, the RSV simply has it all. The tannins are present, but they are also matched by tremendous fruit density and pure power. Floral and savory overtones grace the lifted, saline finish. Leaving price aside, if I could only have one wine in this range, it would unquestionably be the RSV. The 2017 is a total knock-out. That’s all there is to it.”

  45. RVF 100 (Coup de cœur), Burghound 96, WA 96+, V 96

“A nose of rose and wild rose in the task, which after an energetic attack offers an explosion of flavours of rare and penetrating intensity. Captivating, radiant, this wine shines with a thousand lights and carries you away in a whirlwind of dizzyingly radiant sensations. Particularly graceful, already moving, it has exceptional reserves. "
