Montreal, February 24, 2023 – Always seeking to shrink its environmental footprint as a way of contributing to the ecological transition, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) is pleased to announce that, beginning this June, all single-use containers will be eliminated from its SAQ Bistros, a fixture at festivals across Quebec. This initiative is being rolled out in partnership with the Quebec-based firm Cupko.

Taking this step is a concrete way to lessen our environmental impact while also encouraging a local company. Every act in support of the environment counts and, as a responsible government corporation, the SAQ is proud to partner with Cupko to reduce the residual materials related to its donation and sponsorship activities.

Nearly 400,000 glasses a year to be removed from recycling

Several festivals have already switched to reusable glasses and, by partnering with Cupko, the SAQ is extending their use to all events where the SAQ has a presence in the form of its SAQ Bistros. In all, nearly 400,000 glasses will be removed from recycling each year. The SAQ supports nearly 250 organizations and events each year, and all proceeds from the sale of products at SAQ bistros are donated to the hosting event.
