Calera Viognier Mount Harlan 2017
Detailed info
At the tender age of 20, Josh Jensen left for Burgundy to learn French. Upon his return to California in 1971, he dedicated himself to finding the perfect location to grow the best Burgundian varieties. He eventually found a location at the top of Mount Harlan in San Benito, just south of San Francisco. This plot of land had exactly what he had been looking for-rich, chalky soil similar to Burgundy. The vineyards where he grows his Pinot Noir, Viognier and Chardonnay have been certified organic since 2008. Burgundy had better watch out!
«With inviting aromas of mandarin orange, thyme, orange zest and exotic fruit, this Viognier has us wrapped around its finger. The frankness and definition of this wine put it in a class of its own. Barrel-matured for 10 months in 30% new French oak, this wine has imposing texture and volume with exceptional freshness. Persistent in the mouth with notes of blueberry, lavender, violet and exotic fruit, this wine is far from insipid. A superb lesson in what Viognier has to offer!»
