    Armed with an oenology diploma from UC Davis and a solid experience at Gallo and Beaulieu Vineyard, Joe Heitz started his own estate with his wife Alice in 1961. After humble beginnings, the vineyard grew to some 60 hectares, 40 of which make up the Trailside vineyard, located at the heart of Napa Valley. The organic Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee is aged up to 42 months in American tuns and in French oak barrels. The 2004 shows no sign of age and will make a lovely addition to the cellar.
