FAQ

Where can I buy a gift card?
- Virtual gift card: You can purchase a virtual gift card in the amount of your choice (between $10 and $500) on the website of our partner Givex.
- Physical gift card: SAQ gift cards can be purchased at all SAQ stores. Simply select a card, tell the cashier the amount you want to put on it, and make your purchase. The card will be activated immediately.
- Partner-retailers: The SAQ gift card is also available at certain external partner-retailers in the amounts of $25, $50 and $100. The card will be activated at the partner-retailer store and can be used immediately afterwards at any SAQ store, as long as electronic payment is functional. For any question regarding activation, please keep your receipt and present it at the purchase location.
Receipt and confirmation of purchase of a virtual gift card
The recipient will receive the virtual gift card after midnight on the selected delivery date. Verification may take up to one business day. You will receive a purchase confirmation email.
Can I send virtual gift cards to multiple recipients?
Yes, you can purchase multiple cards, which can vary in amounts, and send them to multiple recipients with different email addresses. Each recipient will receive their own card, and you will receive a single order confirmation for all the cards purchased.
Can I send a personalized message with a virtual gift card?
Yes, you can add a personalized message for the recipient when purchasing the card. Simply enter your message in the appropriate field on the order page .

Can I buy physical gift cards online?
Physical gift cards are only available in-store. You can, however, purchase virtual gift cards online.
What happens if I make a mistake with an email address or the recipient didn't receive the virtual card sent?
Please note that the SAQ is not responsible for incorrect email addresses provided for the recipient, order confirmation, invoicing, shipping or sending a personalized message, etc.
Is there a fee to send a virtual gift card?
No, there are no fees for activation, use or balance management.
Can I order gift cards online on SAQ.COM?
Virtual gift cards, in the amount of your choice (up to a maximum of $500), can be purchased on this page of our partner Givex website.
What amounts do gift cards come in?
When you purchase a gift card at an SAQ store, you decide the amount to put on the card, for a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $500. At certain external partner-retailers, you can purchase gift cards in the amounts of $25, $50 and $100.
With the virtual gift card, you can choose the amount, up to a maximum of $500.
What can I buy with the gift card?
The gift card can be used as a payment method for all products sold in SAQ stores, on SAQ.COM and in the SAQ mobile app. It is not possible to purchase gift cards with a gift card, or to separate the amount of a gift card into multiple gift cards.

Purchases made on behalf of permit holders, promotional agencies, church wardens, synagogues and diplomatic missions cannot be paid for with a gift card.
Where can I use gift cards?
Gift cards can be used at all SAQ stores, SAQ.COM and the SAQ mobile application but are not accepted at SAQ agencies.
How do I pay with a gift card?
· In-store: present the card at the cash register before the transaction is complete. A PIN is required for all purchases made with an SAQ gift card.
· Online: In the shopping cart on SAQ.COM or the SAQ mobile app, enter the card's personal identification number (PIN). In the case of physical cards, the PIN is below the scratch off portion on the back of the card. For virtual cards, the PIN is located on the front of the card.
Can I order multiple gift cards?
Yes. We provide a sales service for purchase of multiple gift cards. A loyalty program is also available for businesses. Certain conditions apply.

Can I cancel an order?
Gift card orders cannot be cancelled and gift cards are non-refundable. Please see the Terms of use for more details.
When will my gift card be activated?
Physical gift cards are activated as soon as they are purchased in-store. Virtual gift cards are activated when emailed to the recipient. Please note that your order may be subject to revision, which may take up to one business day from the time of purchase.
How can I find out what the balance on my card is?
You can check the balance of your gift card in-store or by calling 1-800-962-4935. You can also check the balance on the receipt of each purchase.
Do I have to spend the entire amount on my card in a single transaction?
No, you can use all or part of the value of your card. If you have a balance left, it will be saved for a later purchase. However, if the balance on the card fully covers the amount of the transaction, you cannot use only a portion of the balance on the card.
How long is the gift card valid?
The gift card is good for life until the balance is spent. This also applies to gift cards already in circulation, regardless of their purchase date and including cards marked with the notice that they are valid for a 24-month duration.
Returning products paid with a gift card
Returns are subject to the usual product return policy. Refunded online purchases will be credited to a new virtual gift card. In the case of a balance of $5 or less, you must request a refund in-store.
Can I get my money back if my card is lost or stolen?
You are solely responsible for your card. Protect it as you would any other means of payment, because the remaining balance cannot be refunded if your card is lost or stolen.
The SAQ is not responsible for loss, theft or unauthorized use.
For a damaged or defective physical card purchased in the SAQ sales network, a replacement is possible if the card number is identifiable and there is a balance remaining.
The replacement of a damaged or defective card is only possible in-store, under certain conditions.
· For a card from a partner-retailer, please return to the location where the card was purchased.
Are gift cards reloadable?
Gift cards are not reloadable. However, you can purchase additional cards at any time.

Terms of use
1. The purchase and use of the Société des alcools du Québec (hereinafter referred to as the “SAQ”) gift card constitute the acceptance of its terms of use. It is recommended to keep the gift card activation invoice.
2. The minimum value of the gift card is $10.00 and the maximum value is $500.00*.
3. The gift card can be used to pay for purchases made at any SAQ store. It can also be used on SAQ.COM or in the SAQ mobile application to pay for products that can be delivered in Quebec only.
4. The purchases made on SAQ.COM or in the SAQ mobile application may be paid by gift card, provided that the amount paid by this method does not exceed $500.00. The number of gift cards that can be used in a single transaction may be limited.
5. The value of the gift card is expressed in Canadian currency.
6. The sale of a gift card is not taxable. When the gift card is used, it is a form of payment in the same way as cash, and sales taxes apply to each product sold.
7. The gift card has no expiry date and no activation, usage or other fees are associated with it. The gift card is valid until its balance expires.
8. The gift card balance can be checked at any SAQ store or by calling 1-800-962-4935.
9. To use the gift card at an SAQ store, the card must be presented at the cash register before the end of the transaction where the customer wishes to use it. If the gift card is used on SAQ.COM or on the SAQ mobile application, the gift card information, including the gift card’s personal identification number (also known as “PIN”), must be entered in the appropriate fields before the transaction is completed. The PIN is located under the scratch-off section on the back of the physical gift card or on the front of the virtual gift card.
10. Transactions paid by gift card on SAQ.COM or on our mobile application, if they must be refunded, will be refunded by the issuance of a new virtual gift card for the value of the amount to be refunded by the SAQ.
11. The gift card cannot be used for:
- The purchase of another gift card.
- Purchases made by permit holders, SAQ agencies, churches or synagogues.
- Purchases made by promotional agencies.
- Purchases made by consulate members/missionary groups.
- An amount due on a customer account.
1. The purchase of a gift card cannot be combined with any other promotion. No points associated to the SAQ Inspire program will be issued for the purchase of the gift card.
2. The gift card cannot be refunded.
3. The gift card cannot be reloaded following its purchase or its balance increased.
4. The amount of the purchases will be deducted from the balance of the gift card until the value reaches $0.00. When the remaining balance on the gift card is $5.00 or less, the customer may request a refund of this balance at any SAQ store.
5. As soon as the gift card is issued, whether it is a virtual or physical gift card, the customer and/or the person to whom it is offered is fully responsible for it. The SAQ assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen or unauthorized use of the gift card. In the case of a damaged, unusable or defective gift card, the customer`s sole recourse, and the SAQ`s sole responsibility, will be the replacement of the gift card if the information contained on the card allows identification of its number and if a balance remains on the gift card. The SAQ assumes no responsibility if an error is made when the purchaser enters the e-mail address of the recipient of a virtual gift card.
6. The SAQ reserves the right, at any time, not to accept the issuance of a gift card, to cancel a gift card or to limit its use in any way if it has reason to believe that the gift card is unauthorized, fraudulent or otherwise illegal. In addition, the gift card may also be deactivated by the SAQ, without notice, if it has reason to believe that fraud or theft has occurred.
7. The SAQ may modify the terms of use of the gift card without prior notice. The most current and applicable terms of use are those found on SAQ.COM.
8. The French version of the terms of use for the SAQ gift card is the official version and shall prevail on the English translated version.

How can I protect my gift cards and avoid being scammed?
- Buy from trusted sources: Buy your gift cards only from reputable stores or official websites. Avoid third-party sellers or unverified resale sites.
- Verify the integrity of the card: Before purchasing a gift card, make sure the PIN has not been scratched or exposed. If the card appears to be altered, ask for another card.
- Keep your receipts: Always keep the receipt for your gift card purchase. It can be useful in case of a problem or loss.
- Use your cards quickly: Gift cards that are unused for a long period of time may be more vulnerable to fraud. Use them as soon as possible.
- Beware of phone or email scams: Never share your gift card information over the phone or by email, even if the request appears to come from a trusted source. Legitimate companies will never ask you for this information in this way.
- Report suspicious activity: If you believe you’ve been a victim of fraud or notice any suspicious activity related to your gift card, contact the card issuer's customer service department immediately.
