Do you think getting three meals a day
is easy?
For many Quebecers, it isn’t. Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) and its Moisson organizations handle more than two million requests for food assistance a year. Their support is crucial to the well-being of many families, which is why we’ve been partnering with the FBQ for 12 years now and supporting them with our in-store campaigns.

The FBQ campaigns have been especially successful at the SAQ Dépôt store in Quebec City. According to store manager Simon Poitras, the close relationship with Moisson Québec is a big reason why.
“For several years now, we’ve grown closer to the Moisson Québec team,” he says. “They’ve come to the store to talk about food assistance and we’ve visited their facilities. We’ve seen for ourselves just how great the needs in this area are. All this has had a positive impact on our team, which is super-motivated to support the corporate cause. We’ve found that all it takes is becoming aware of the issue.”

Karine Dolbec, a supplier development and relationship coordinator with Moisson Québec, believes that philanthropy is, above all, a question of human relations: “My work involves building human ties so people become aware and are naturally motivated to support our cause. I have to say that our relationship with the Quebec City SAQ Dépôt store is a really good one. It just clicks for us! Simon and Alexandre, the store managers, and their entire team are excellent ambassadors. Every time the FBQ campaign rolls around, they double down on their efforts and creativity to encourage customers to donate.
“Our network of 127 organizations helps feed 63,000 persons a month in the greater Quebec City area alone,” she continues. “That’s huge! We often think that hunger doesn’t exist here but that’s not true. And when people understand that, they rally to the cause. The SAQ Dépôt team has clearly understood the scale and scope of our food assistance needs, and that’s reflected in their level of involvement.”
The Magog team at the service of its community
Marlayne Michaud is a cashier-sales clerk at the Rue Principale SAQ in Magog, another store that’s among the top five donation collectors during our FBQ campaigns. She’s in charge of motivating the troops.
“I do it because I believe taking care of others is important,” she explains. “We pull out all the stops to make sure the experience is super-festive for customers as well as the employees. It’s a big party for everyone! Whenever a donation is made, a bell at the checkout counter is rung. We try to make it as fun as possible for everyone. When we greet customers during the campaign, we want them to feel like they’re part of something big. So far, it’s worked out really well, with everyone pitching in to help the people in our region.”

More refined offerings, better marketing and customers looking to “drink local”: Quebec beverage alcohol products are popular for a reason. Vintners, distillers and cider makers are crafting excellent products in your own backyard. And the success they’re enjoying is a source of great pride.
