Detailed info
“The 2016 Branco Grande Reserva Mirabilis is a blend of 9% Viosinho, 21% Gouveio and 70% very old vines, aged for eight months in an 80/20 mixture of new and used oak (mostly French, with 15% Hungarian). It comes in at 14% alcohol. This was the final blend and out of barrel, a tank sample due to be bottled in a few days. This is Quinta Nova’s high prestige white. At the moment it is impressive, graceful as always, pointed and perfectly balanced. This year has less Viosinho than the 2015, but it is mostly along the same lines otherwise. Its wood shows a bit at the moment, but that will get better and gives this some upside potential after it has some time to settle in the bottle. As a big white that leans to elegance and freshness, it is very appealing. It should age well—although I suspect the 2015 will do a little better. We’ll see in time.”
