"Paolo de Marchi officiated until 2022 at this Tuscan estate halfway between Siena and Florence, in the heart of Chianti Classico (Barberino Val d'Elsa). Isole e Olena was born from the merger of these two eponymous estates acquired by the Piedmontese family in the 1950s and is now considered as the pinnacle of the appellation. Paolo de Marchi has made his mark, among other things, through his rigorous search for quality and his use of international grape varieties in Chianti (notably Chardonnay and Syrah). This Chianti Classico is made mainly from Sangiovese, with a little Canaiolo and Syrah. We find aromas of crunchy red fruits (morello cherries, cranberries) as well as mineral aromas (clay pot, wet earth) associated with Sangiovese, with a structure supported by accessory grape varieties. Its concentration and structure (especially given its youth) will make this wine the perfect partner for your barbecue (flank steak or flank steak marinated in red wine), which you are dying to light up."
