  • 30 ml (1 oz.) dry gin
  • 30 ml (1 oz.) citrus liqueur
  • 30 ml (1 oz.) lime juice
  • Ice cubes

In a shaker

Combine ingredients and ice cubes in a shaker.

Shake vigorously for 8 to 10 seconds.

Strain into a martini glass using an ice strainer.

In 1919, in London's Ciro's Club, bartender Harry MacElhone created the first White Lady, initially using white crème de menthe instead of gin. Four years later, when MacElhone was the owner of Harry's New York Bar, he modified the recipe, this time using equal parts gin, citrus liqueur and lemon juice.
