Gin fizz

- 45 ml (1 1/2 oz.) gin
- 20 ml (2/3 oz.) lemon juice
- 10 ml (2 tsp.) granulated sugar
- 90 ml (3 oz.) club soda
- Lemon slices
- 1 maraschino cherry
- 5 or 6 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients in a shaker.
Shake vigorously 8 to 10 seconds.
Pour in a highball glass.
Add club soda.
Garnish with lemon slices and a maraschino cherry.

Upon their return to England, the sailors modified the recipe by adding sugar and carbonated water, making the drink more refreshing and pleasant tasting.
