The SAQ launches a new Food Banks of Quebec campaign

Montreal, December 3, 2020 – As the holiday season draws near, the sad truth is that many people in need have no choice but to rely on food banks. In view of this reality, the SAQ is encouraging its customers to show their solidarity between December 3 and 9 by making a contribution to Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ).

During the campaign period, customers will be encouraged to donate at checkout or, as they can do year round, buy packaging (bags, paperboard or wood gift boxes) or reusable bags in support of the FBQ, which distributes provisions to more than 500,000 persons a month in every region of Quebec. Donations can also be made online on the Food Banks of Quebec website.

“After the difficult year all of us have gone through and with the holidays fast approaching, it is more important than ever to help those who struggle to meet a need as basic as having enough to eat,” said Catherine Dagenais, President and Chief Executive Officer of the SAQ. “That is why I encourage all our customers to be generous and help the FBQ carry out its mission, which is so essential to the thousands of families who require food assistance.”

Unflagging financial support for 11 years and counting
Thanks to the generosity of its customers and the involvement of its 7,500 employees, the SAQ has funnelled more than $8 million into the FBQ network since 2011. The funds have been used not only to meet requests for assistance received by the FBQ, but also to support projects to acquire equipment needed to carry out its mission. The Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) network is now more than 30 years old. With the support of its 19 Moisson regional food banks and 13 associate members across Quebec, some 1,200 community organizations handle more than 1.9 million requests for food assistance a month.
