  1. B 96

"A slightly riper nose combines notes of plum, black cherry, spice and more subtle earth nuances along with a floral top note. The generously proportioned, plump and highly seductive middleweight flavors possess an abundance of sappy dry extract while the strikingly long finish is also shaped by dense but fine-grained tannins on the superbly long, balanced and lightly stony finish. This is also stunningly good and a wine that should be more approachable young compared to the Chambertin."

  2. B 95

"An ever spicier and equally cool combination freely displays of red and blue pinot fruit, tangerine peel, anise, smoked duck and a whisper of exotic tea. The richer bigger-bodied flavors possess excellent mid-palate density while exuding evident minerality on the powerful, mouth coating and hugely long finish. While qualitatively similar to the Latricières, this offers a markedly different expression. Excellent and this too is recommended."

  3. B 96

"A reserved, cool and inexpressive nose requires aggressive swirling to eventually liberate its high-toned aromas of essence of red cherry, just turned earth and plenty of sauvage nuances. There is absolutely superb intensity to the super-sleek texture of the broad-shouldered flavors thanks to the fine-grained tannins that also shape the moderately austere and equally long finish. This is genuinely stunning though very much built-to-age."

  4. B 89 Coup de cœur Outstanding

"There is a distinct note of petrol to the ever-so-mildly exotic nose that blends ripe dried yellow orchard fruit with orange pekoe tea nuances. There is seriously impressive density to the medium-bodied flavors in the context of the appellation as it's rare to see this kind of concentration in a Bourgogne. The vaguely exotic character carries over to the almost creamy finish where it's buffered by a hint of citrus. As the description suggests this is a big wine and while it's not refined it is certainly impressive. To my taste this is drinking perfectly now though it will certainly hold with no trouble. This is a blend of the 2009, 2010 and the 2011 vintages"

  5. B 94-97 Coup de cœur, Don’t miss Outstanding, V 95-97, WA 95+

"An exuberantly floral nose combines notes of rose petal, violet, lavender, earth, clove and black cherry liqueur. The almost painfully intense, sappy and muscular big-bodied mouth coating flavors brim with minerality on the explosively long and balanced finish that is less youthfully austere than usual. Even so, the supporting tannins are prominent and leave no doubt that this is going to mature gracefully if slowly. This stunningly good Clos des Ducs is a clear candidate for the best Côte de Beaune red in the 2020 vintage. A monopole that measures 2.15 ha"

  6. WA 90-92, RVF 91

"The 2020 Montagny 1er Cru Le Mont Laurent is very good, mingling aromas of crisp orchard fruit, freshly baked bread, clear honey, dried white flowers and nutmeg in an inviting bouquet, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and muscular palate that's rich but incisive, with terrific tension, tangy acids and a penetrating finish. This bottling derives from a two-hectare, high-altitude monopole characterized by mauve Triassic clays."

  7. WA 93-95, RVF 93

"The 2020 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Champs Martin unwinds in the glass with scents of freshly baked bread, wet stones, white currants, confit citrus and crisp green orchard fruit. Full-bodied, ample and seamless, it's layered and racy, with broad shoulders, bright acids and a long, mineral finish. Its elegant profile belies considerable reserves of chalky structuring extract that will make this a wine for the long haul."
