Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC
Originally from Burgundy, a mutation of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris would then have been planted in Switzerland to continue its journey towards northern Italy, where Grigio would take off with the seductive profile that we know. If it is now planted everywhere on the Old Continent and in the New World, no region can claim to have propelled it to success like the north-east of the Italian peninsula, its preferred terroir.
Delle Venezie, a new DOC
Formerly a IGP designation (Italian for Protected Geographical Indication), Delle Venezie switched to DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) in 2017 to better regulate the production of its wines. Through its standards, the DOC ensures quality control of Pinot Grigio wines produced in the regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the province of Trentino, one of the largest territories in the world dedicated to the promotion of Grigio. With hundreds of years of history, Delle Venezie is now committed to providing traceability of the production of its wines from vineyard to bottle. With its easily recognizable seal, you can choose a bottle with confidence, knowing that production rules guarantee a quality wine as well as the style you expect.
The Delle Venezie style
Pinot Gris planted outside the Veneto region comes in different styles, sometimes smoother or rounder, and even in a macerated version elsewhere in Italy. But the international reputation of Pinot Grigio comes from the characteristic style of the light and lively, fresh and tangy white wine from the north of the country. While some cuvées can be complex and contemplative, thirst-quenching wines are highly sought after for their pleasant, easy-drinking and casual profile. In short, Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie is a very popular white wine that we like to share as an aperitif or at the table, in all simplicity.
Did you know?
Unlike other green-skinned grapes responsible for white wine, Pinot Gris (or Grigio) grapes are a lovely shade of pink-gray, hence its name.
Popular Pinot Grigio
Introduced to North America in the 1970s, Pinot Grigio quickly became a huge success and rose to the top of the most imported Italian wines in the 1990s. Some 30 years later, it’s still going strong.
Of the 18 million cases produced under the appellation in 2024, 95% were destined for the export market1.
According to a recent survey, Pinot Grigio/Gris is still the second most consumed white wine in the United States, after Chardonnay2.
