When David Swift Phinney accepted a friend's offer to go "study" in Florence, he didn't expect to have such a penchant for the wine world. After harvesting at Robert Mondavi in 1997, he realized that you must work really hard to produce quality. And if he was going to do it, it was going to be for himself, so he launched Orin Swift Cellars in 1998…with only two tons of Zinfandel on hand. Courage and hard work have served him well! Now, he is creating magic by marrying the region's grape varieties to make very complex blends.
