Holiday break to limit the spread of COVID-19
The SAQ authorized to remain open

Beginning Saturday, January 9, all Express stores will close their doors at 7:30 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. This will ensure that all SAQ stores are in compliance with the new measures, as the opening hours adopted for non-Express stores since the start of the pandemic already meet the curfew requirements.

Yesterday, among the measures announced by the Quebec government to limit the spread of COVID-19, the SAQ was listed as one of the businesses authorized to maintain retail operations between December 25, 2020, and January 10, 2021.


Net income reaches $311 million in second quarter of fiscal 2020-2021

The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) today announced the results for the second quarter of its 2020-2021 fiscal year. Sales during the quarter totalled $861 million, a 6.7% increase from the second quarter of the preceding fiscal year. The SAQ also reported net income of $311 million, remitted in its entirety to the Quebec government.


The SAQ launches a new Food Banks of Quebec campaign

As the holiday season draws near, the sad truth is that many people in need have no choice but to rely on food banks. In view of this reality, the SAQ is encouraging its customers to show their solidarity between December 3 and 9 by making a contribution to Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ).


The SAQ presents more than $500,000 to the Food Banks of Quebec network

The SAQ’s second fundraising campaign of the year for the Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) network was held in SAQ stores, where, between August 27 and September 2, customers were encouraged to make a contribution at checkout. Totalling $572,806, the donation also includes the $12 delivery fees, given in full to the FBQ, for online orders made between May 31 and July 11, 2020.

Bridges incorporating glass powder built in Montreal

The Ville de Montréal, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) and the Chaire SAQ de valorisation du verre dans les matériaux at the Université de Sherbrooke are pleased to announce a world first: the construction of two bridges using concrete that is 10% finely ground recovered glass.


Net income of $243.5 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2020-2021

The SAQ today announced the results for the first quarter of its 2020-2021 fiscal year, which ended June 20, 2020. . In a quarter impacted by COVID-19 in various ways, sales totalled $768.6 million, an increase of only 0.7% over the first quarter of the preceding fiscal year.

SAQ confirms a single upward price adjustment in 2020

On Sunday, August 16, the SAQ will upwardly adjust the prices of several of the continuous replenishment products it offers to its customers, as we announce in June.


Preventive Closing of Three Stores in Blainville and Mirabel

After eight of its employees tested positive for COVID-19 recently, the SAQ has announced the preventive closing of three stores on Montreal’s North Shore.


Effective July 18
Face coverings must be worn in SAQ stores

Beginning Saturday, July 18, 2020, all customers who enter SAQ stores will be required to wear a face covering, as mandated by the new government and public health guidelines.


The SAQ announces net income of $1.226 billion for fiscal 2019-2020

The SAQ ended its 2019-2020 fiscal year on March 28, 2020, with net income of $1.226 billion, up $79.6 million from the preceding fiscal year. Sales rose 5.9% to reach $3.489 billion. A $1.226 billion dividend paid to the Quebec government to the benefit of all Quebecers.

Sales of $1,219.3 million for the third quarter of 2019-2020

The SAQ today announced its financial results for the third quarter of its fiscal year, which ended on January 4, 2020. Compared with the third quarter of its preceding fiscal year, sales rose 5.2% to $1,219.3 million. This increase enabled the SAQ declare net earnings of $448 million, remitted in its entirety to the Quebec government.


COVID-19 – The SAQ changes its opening hours to give its employees a break on Sundays

For several days now, the SAQ has been operating with reduced staff due to preventive self-isolation and the closing of schools and daycare centres. The current situation and high amount of traffic in SAQ stores mean that employees are experiencing considerable fatigue and concern. The SAQ has therefore decided to change the opening hours of the store network to give team members time to rest. Effective tomorrow and for an indeterminate period, all SAQ stores will be closed on Sundays and will reopen their doors to customers at noon on Mondays. Monday mornings will be devoted to cleaning and sanitizing the stores and restocking the shelves so that team members will be ready to start serving customers again.


The SAQ responds to call from Food Banks of Quebec

Answering a cry for help from the country’s food banks, the SAQ is donating $1 million to Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ). The move is in support of Quebecers who find themselves in dire and unforeseen circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SAQ is also encouraging customers to join the effort to support food banks by making a donation online through the FBQ website.

COVID-19: Risk mitigation measures at the SAQ

The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) is sensitive to Quebecers’ growing concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and has implemented measures aimed at minimizing the health risks for employees and customers and ensuring a safe working and shopping environment. The SAQ’s senior management has set up a dedicated committee that meets daily to assess the level of risk associated with COVID-19 and make sure the appropriate procedures have been implemented and explained to employees and customers.
