Round and fatty, this California Chardonnay benefits from an élevage on lees, which contributes to its structure and rather charming aromatic profile. A quarter of the cuvée was aged in oak casks, bringing a certain complexity to an ensemble marked by scents of pear, peach and Golden delicious apple. The added notes of brioche, vanilla and butter make it a perfect pairing for baked salmon or creamy mushroom risotto.

The Vinos de Madrid appellation definitely changes the face of Spanish Grenache! Born from vines taking advantage of regional altitude, this wine expresses great finesse on an attack of jammy strawberry and cherry and a touch of spices, all the while preserving pleasing freshness. Quite dry and mildly tannic, it would need some decanting to fully reveal its potential, and a bit of chilling, too. To discover!

Mostly known for its implication in Cava, Spanish bubblies made using the traditional method, the Xarel-lo varietal is getting increasing recognition in still wines. Light in alcohol but quite dry, we completely fell for this organically-produced wine with no added sulphites. Its light-as-air feel and lively attack make this the ideal aperitif. It expresses saline notes, scents of green apple and a vegetal note recalling cilantro.

Since 2006, a portion of the organically-grown harvest is produced on site and allows Jané to craft authentic and flavourful wines like this Xarel-lo white aged seven months on lees. Intriguing notes of spices, honey and lemon zest take flight and blend perfectly with the lively and suave mouth.

The cuvées bear the producer’s name, but pike (brochet in French) also happens to be most populous fish in Val de Loire. Frédéric Brochet is above all a lover of the Loire terroir, and takes great pleasure in revealing its essence through its organic cuvées. This wine reveals a fresh attack and opens on notes of cherry and raspberry, with of course the signature vegetal touch of the region. A fantastic pairing with beef tartare with sundried tomatoes, arugula salad and parmesan shavings. Yum.

Fontanabianca Barbaresco 2015 Red wine | 750 ml Italy , Piedmont
    $30.00
    AvailableOnline Not availableIn Store
Along with its Barolo neighbour, Barbaresco is at the top of the Piedmont appellations. Nebbiolo, star varietal, is sole master and defines on its own the unique style of these great wines. Always a bit hostile in its youth because of its firm tannins, it always rewards those with enough patience. This cuvée, offered at an affordable price point considering the appellation, already deploys its classic aromas of red fruits, dried flowers and licorice, but will benefit from one hour of decanting. Born to pair with rare red meats.

Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco 2016 Red wine | 750 ml Italy , Piedmont
    $31.75
    AvailableOnline Not availableIn Store
“Oh my God (perbacco!), it tastes like a Barolo” shouted Luca Currado’s mother at first sip of this cuvée.  For the oenologist, this Langhe red is a Barolo in its own right. The casks of Barolo Castiglione that don’t make it to the final blend are the basis of this cuvée, showcasing great finesse and aromatic precision. The attack is supple and easy-drinking with added elegance though fruity, spicy and floral notes. The finale reveals the tight tannic structure you’d expect from Nebbiolo and a welcomed acidity.
