What is
Muscadet?
The Muscadet AOC is a Loire Valley appellation located in the west of the region. It is part of the Nantes vineyards. It produces a white wine of great freshness and elegance from the Melon Blanc grape variety, as well as age-worthy cuvées capable of great complexity. It is like an orchestra in harmony, with its instruments sometimes ethereal and sometimes more sustained, with the Atlantic Ocean as its maestro, breathing freshness into every note.

Melon Blanc
This grape variety, also called Melon B or simply Melon, is the only grape variety authorized for Muscadet, and the Loire is the world's leading wine-growing region. While all varieties are imbued with their soil, this one expresses its terroir particularly well since it is not the most aromatic and varietal. A chameleon of its cuvées, the Meon Blanc expresses itself in the Loire with a beautiful mineral imprint and great elegance.
Muscadet is a three-level pyramid
The Muscadet appellation, also known as regional Muscadet, is a mosaic of subsoils that stretches from the Atlantic to Anjou, from the Loire to Vendée. It's the gateway to discovering the typical profile of its light wines with subtle aromas. It's the charm of youth and an invitation to savour moments in all simplicity.
Pairings
The perfect partner for your aperitifs, AOC Muscadet wines pair well with seafood snacks, fresh oysters and fresh cheeses.
Three appellations are at the heart of the Muscadet range: Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire and Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu. The best known is undoubtedly Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, appreciated for its great minerality and versatility, so much so that it is often the starting point for exploring the region. It is also one of the oldest AOCs in France (1936) and the largest area and volume of production in the Nantes vineyard.
Wine from these three appellations may or may not be aged on lees, in which case the minimum ageing period is 6 months. Contact with the lees enhances the floral aromas of the Melon Blanc and creates a slight sparkling effect while preserving the mineral and elegant side that we know of these wines. And while their lightness presupposes that they should be enjoyed in their youth, they can be cellared for a few years to develop greater depth and richness.
Pairings
These wines go perfectly from aperitif to table, and they're perfect for seaside pairings. Think seafood and cozy gatherings.
The communal Muscadet cuvées are high-end wines produced from small plots of land in the Nantes vineyards. Relatively young, they have been gradually introduced since 2011 with a view to improving quality and making Muscadet a truly gastronomic wine. These cuvées reflect a very specific terroir and its unique subsoil. Aged on lees (minimum 24 months) to add more complexity and substance, these wines can be enjoyed young but will blow you away after a few years of aging.
Pairings
Cru wines have more body and complexity. They are made for more elaborate and textured seafood and other gourmet dishes that call for a great white.
