The project to expand the Société des alcools du Québec’s (SAQ) Montréal distribution centre has reached a key milestone, with the launch of the call for tenders to award the construction management contract for the building.
When the expansion is complete, the SAQ’s facilities in Montréal’s east end will have a total floor area in excess of 1 million square feet and will propel the next stage in the evolving customer experience offered to Quebecers, including online at SAQ.COM.
The Montreal Automated Centre (known by its French acronym CAM) will be a major upgrade to the organization’s infrastructures, the largest such modernization in nearly 20 years, and will enable the SAQ to:
- Expand the product offering available at SAQ.COM and to permit holders to nearly 20,000 products, including private-import products by the unit
- Offer rapid delivery of online orders
- Optimize warehouse operations and efficiency, notably by installing an automated single order picking system
- Support the expected sales volume growth in all SAQ customer segments over the next 25 years.
