On Mother’s Day, put some Quebec in your glass!

Montreal, May 5, 2022 – From May 5 to 11, the SAQ is encouraging its customers and all Quebecers to contribute to Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) by purchasing a Quebec product. For each Origine Québec, Made in Québec or Bottled in Québec product sold, the SAQ will donate a meal to the organization. Due to the pandemic’s impact on the economy and to the inflationary environment of recent months, the FBQ has seen an exceptional 50% increase across Quebec.

“Food insecurity is, more than ever, a challenge for a number of our fellow citizens,” said Catherine Dagenais, President and Chief Executive Officer of the SAQ. “More and more Quebecers are relying on the FBQ to get enough to eat. That’s why our support is essential and why all our teams are motivated to raise customers’ awareness and encourage them to be generous. Let’s show we care for each other.”

“The ongoing effects of COVID and inflation mean the FBQ network depends on the support of its partners,” added Martin Munger, Executive Director of the FBQ. “For the 13th year running, we are able to count on the SAQ, its employees and its loyal customers to answer our call. Their great generosity will help ensure our members can meet the increasing demand for food assistance and offer sustenance and comfort to more than 600,000 persons in need in every region of Quebec. We thank you from the bottom of our heart.”

During the campaign, store network customers will also be encouraged to donate at checkout. In addition, donations can be made online at any time on the Food Banks of Quebec website.

Also, as is the case throughout the year, buying a gift wrap product remains an effective way to contribute to the cause. For each wrap product sold, part of the profit from the sale is paid directly to all the members of the FBQ network in every corner of Quebec.

Loyal support for 13 years

The generosity of its customers and involvement of its 7,000 employees have enabled the SAQ to channel close to $14 million into the FBQ network since 2009. The funds are used not only to meet the requests for assistance that the FBQ receives but also to support projects to acquire the equipment needed to carry out its mission. The SAQ is proud to be the FBQ’s leading financial partner.
