Montreal, September 7, 2023 – As promised, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) is donating to Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) the equivalent of one meal for every Quebec product it sold between August 31 and September 6. Customers were also encouraged to make a donation at checkout. These initiatives enable it today to remit a total of $861,801 to the FBQ network for use in assisting thousands of Quebecers dealing with food insecurity.

Sincere thanks to employees and customers

“I want to express my thanks first to our store employees across Quebec, who are the ambassadors for our corporate cause,” said Jacques Farcy, President and Chief Executive Officer of the SAQ. “Without their involvement, it would not have been possible to pull off a big campaign like the one just ended. Thanks also to our customers across Quebec who, once again, generously answered our call. This generosity seen here is a reflection of our deep values, and it makes me proud to be part of the big SAQ family.”

“Never has the demand for food assistance reached such heights and, in the current economy, it will only continue to increase,” noted Martin Munger, Executive Director of Food Banks of Quebec. “Our goal is for Quebecers always to have something to eat. The amount we’re receiving from the SAQ today is huge for us! Many thanks to the SAQ and its customers and employees, who give us invaluable support and have done so for more than 14 years. Though many households are feeling the impact of the higher cost of living, the assistance received today will enable us to help people who are in situations of instability and insecurity.”

If you’d like to know more about the SAQ’s involvement with the FBQ, you can listen to a chat involving Martin Munger, Executive Director of Food Banks of Quebec, Élaine Côté, General Manager of Moisson Québec and Armand Kayolo, General Manager of Moisson Outaouais, in this episode of the SAQ podcast (in French only) devoted to Food Banks of Quebec.
