On May 25, 2025, as planned in its price change request schedule, the SAQ will carry out a price adjustment based on its negotiations with suppliers and marine carriers.
Reminder of the negotiation process
As previously announced, the SAQ’s price change request schedule has been updated in response to partners’ and suppliers’ requests to allow greater flexibility.
Every supplier, producer and agent can now submit a price increase request up to twice a year, choosing from among the four allowed periods (in May, August, November and February). Note that price decrease requests are allowed at any time of the year.
For transparency’s sake, a report is posted on SAQ.com after the end of each of the price negotiation periods.
May 2025 adjustment
A number of factors influence price adjustments. This May the main factors are:
- the increase in suppliers’ production costs;
- higher ocean transport costs due to the weak Canadian dollar and economic and geopolitical uncertainty;
- the appreciating euro and US dollar;
- the increase in excise taxes on beverage alcohol (2% increase imposed by the Canadian government since April 1, 2025).
The following adjustments will be effective beginning May 25, 2025, for regular and continuous replenishment products.
Overall average increase | 1.3% |
Number of price increases | 2,394 |
Average amount of the increases | $0.49 (2.0%) |
Number of price decreases | 135 |
Average amount of the decreases | -0.64% (-2.1%) |
Number of price-stable products | 981 |
Note that among the 2,394 product whose prices will rise, nearly 65 will not see the price increase until August 17, 2025 because they are currently part of a promotion.
