Everybody likes Sam
Sam’s first claim to fame was co-hosting the Olivier-winning hit podcast Tout le monde s’haït (“Everybody Hates Themselves”). His magnetic personality is clearly one of the reasons it’s so popular—he’s someone you’d love to have a drink with.
In the last few years, he’s made TV and radio appearances and performed at festivals. Just recently, he made a splash at Montréal Pride in the queer comedy show Des gags et des paillettes (“Gags and Sequins”). We had the pleasure of catching up with him a few days later, just before he hit the road for his first stand-up comedy tour with his podcast co-host, Marylène Gendron.
So, what are we drinking?
If you’re curious about Sam, start with these three cocktails. They’re inspired by his colourful personality—and impeccable taste.
"I often go for vodka-based drinks because it’s a neutral spirit and not overpowering. I love a good vodka cranberry!” It’s a classic choice for any occasion, in Sam’s book. “I could drink a vodka cranberry before or during a concert—or even at my own show!”
This simple, enjoyable cocktail is just like Sam’s sense of humour—honest and straightforward, with a bit of a bite.
If Sam were a drink, he’d be a strawberry daiquiri.
“Fruity, colourful and sweet!” Plus, you can get creative with the garnishes. “You know when you go somewhere and they have the most over-the-top cocktails? Like a fishbowl of some kind of blue liquid with candy floating in it? That’s what I’d be—a little bit extra, a little bit eccentric.”
This is one comedian who embraces his inner child!
Blue curaçao. Sour Puss. What’s not to love? In honour of Pride, we asked Sam what he’d order to celebrate.
“I love Sour Puss. If I were at a bar in the Village, that’s the first thing I’d order,” he said. It’s no fuss, but nowhere near boring—just like Sam!
Self-acceptance has been a big theme throughout Sam’s career.
“I think every new project, every new phase in my career has helped me grow and be more authentic in my material,” he said.
Between his comedy and his cocktails, Sam is living proof that the best recipe for success is to stay true to yourself. Here’s to you, Sam!
Sam's favourites
Flou Bloom
“I didn’t think I liked gin until I tried this one! I rarely make my own cocktails, but when I feel like playing mixologist, I make a grapefruit gin and tonic. Gotta love citrus!”
Sour Puss Secret 002
“I’m a Sour Puss fiend! It’s such a great way to kick off a night reminiscing with friends. And I love the idea of a mystery flavour. What other liqueur does that?”
Miele Sour Limonade à l'Amaretto
“This is my favourite cooler for summer afternoons in the sun, eating chips and listening to a summer playlist. Pour it over plenty of ice—I guarantee it’s joy in a glass.”

Once again, the SAQ is a partner of the Montréal Pride Festival, which will be celebrating diversity, inclusion and peace from August 1 to 11 in Montreal. For the occasion, we met with two restaurant personalities who are very involved in the community to get their perspective on the evolution of the 2SLGBTQIA+ scene in recent years.
