Cooler and all the more welcome for it
For two years now, we’ve been doing work around our head office in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. By installing a water-retention pond, setting up a huge vegetable garden in collaboration with the Cuisine collective Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and planting more than 250 trees and shrubs, we are helping to keep pollinators healthy, contributing to the fight against heat islands in the area and improving rainwater management. These additions are also perfectly integrated with the more than 18,000 m2 wooded tract on the eastern part of the SAQ campus.

An expansion topped with green
The Montreal automated centre (CAM), an expansion of our Montreal distribution centre, will add more than 17,000 m2 to our current facilities by 2025. To maximize the amount of green space despite the building’s size, we will be installing a green roof covering an expanse of more than 10,000 m2 and a green wall comprised of vines.
Once built, the new roof will help to reduce heat islands in the area and make our facilities more resilient to the effects of climate change. The building will also be integrated into the environment, with the large-scale planting of vegetation, including more than 850 trees, in the immediate surroundings.

The fight against climate change is a major challenge and one that the SAQ has made a priority. That’s why we’ve adopted the ambitious goal of reaching zero greenhouse gas emissions for our vehicles and buildings by 2040.
-
To offer eco-responsible products to customers, the SAQ has decided to remove overpackaging from the beverage alcohol products it sells.

The next time you visit an SAQ store, have some fun by hand-weighing a few wine bottles. You’ll quickly realize they don’t all weigh the same. Welcome to the world of lightweight glass, a more ecological form of packaging!
